Poem: Song of the Pretty Bird by Shay Alexi Stewart

Thesis: “Shay Alexi Stewart represents the objectification of women and how it can decrease a woman’s self worth through symbolism and metaphor.”

A. My thesis is argumentative and argues about the objectification of women and how Shay Alexi Stewart represents it. Not only does she argue about its existence, she uses symbolism and metaphors to show it.

B. The thesis I wrote is mainly focused. The thesis is narrow and specific about what rhetorical devices that the author uses.

C. The thesis could be controversial. The alternative argument could be that the objectification of women is simply not real and that women are always respected and treated as equals.

D. The thesis is supportable. The evidence I’ll be using are specific examples of the symbolism used throughout the poem. I will make connections to how women are treated in today’s society to how the bird is treated within the poem.

 E.  The argument is significant because it brings light to a subject that isn’t discussed much. In today’s society since under the law women may be seen as equal, it doesn’t represent how women are treated everyday and the unwritten expectations of women in today’s society.

F The argument does lay out for the reader how it will be proven. The thesis states the specific rhetorical devices that will be mentioned within the essay and what the represent.
