The issue being spoken on in this meme is the year of 2020. This meme shows Drake, a popular singer and celebrity, in screenshots of a music video for one of his songs. The meme has two pictures of Drake referencing the text next to him. The top picture refers to the text "2020," and the bottom picture refers to the text, "2021." Drake is making an annoyed and disgusted face at the year 2020 while making a pleasant and content face at the year 2021. This is basically implying that the year 2020 was terrible and he much prefers the year 2021 over 2020. This reaction is quite relatable for everyone as most people also hated the year 2020. 2020 was a year of stress, panic, and sadness. We all suffered and had to isolate ourselves from each other. Moreover, in the middle of 2020, society's darks secrets were revealed in how the justice system works, which made society change even more drastically. In short, 2020 was a year of new experiences, and not pleasant experiences at that. 2021, however, is when things started to lighten up. We had become used to the changes that occurred when the pandemic struck. We worked towards justice to multiple minorities that were being mistreated. We can see the light the end of the tunnel for most cases. Many similar memes were created during this time as well. I feel like memes like this were a way of coping with the awful times we were living in. 2020 might not have been the worst year ever, but it still changed the world and introduced modern society to horrors we never believed we would have experienced in our lifetimes. Personally, I have never experienced a pandemic before, and now that we are at the tail end of it, I will always view certain things in a different light than I would have without surviving a pandemic. This meme specifically reassures people that, yes, we have all been through tough times. Yes, we have moved forward and are in a better place now. 2021 is better than 2020, and we will (hopefully) never experience a year like 2020 again. This meme may not be considered "funny," but it is certainly relatable. I think that if we took a vote on which year was better, 2020 or 2021, most people would agree with Drake. 2021 has definitely been way better than 2020.
